LightSheer uses highly concentrated light emitted by a laser diode to inhibit the growth of hair. During the procedure the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to heat the hair up and impede the hair follicles ability to re-grow. The process treats many hair follicles at once, allowing the treatment of large areas in a short time. An important part of the LightSheer treatment is the cooling of the skin. A special cooling handpiece protects and cools the skin before, during and after each laser pulse minimizing any possible discomfort.
How Long Will A Treatment Last?
Treatment may take from a few minutes to an hour or more depending on the size of the area being treated. Best results are obtained from several treatments as the hair progresses through its growth phases.
Is There any Discomfort?
The laser treatment may cause some discomfort. This varies from one patient to another and also depends on the area being treated. If you experience discomfort a topical anesthesia can be applied. The general appearance of the treated area varies from person to person. There may be some redness or minor swelling around the hair follicle, this is an indication the follicle has responded to the laser treatment. Nancy will be happy to tell you more about treatment options and expected results.
Understanding Hair Removal
In the hairs active growth stage called anagen, the LightSheer laser is most effective.
In the catagen stage the hair has stopped growing but is not shed.
In the telogen phase the old hair falls out in preparation for new hair development.
Previous solutions to hair removal included plucking, shaving, waxing, or chemicals. These solutions are painful, messy and only temporary.
Laser hair removal is more effective at permanently removing unwanted hair. The state-of-the-art LightSheer laser removes hair faster and with little discomfort. It is important to know the LightSheer laser affects hairs in the active growth phase the most. Since all hairs are not in this phase at the same time more than one treatment is recommended for best results.
